Responsibilities for the Benefits Assistant:       
  • Respond to and resolve sensitive benefits-related questions, problems and general inquiries
  • Interact with vendors and third party administrators and enroll, change or terminate employee coverage
  • Serve as a backup for the administration of the tuition waiver program, interacting with employees and Student Accounts to answer questions on plan administration and eligibility
  • Approve waivers and enter related information
  • Create, compile, process and track FMLA and leave documentation to facilitate proper leave administration
  • Gather documentation for long-term disability (LTD) claims
  • Calculate and pay monthly premium invoices for a variety of benefit plans to include medical, dental, life, and LTD insurance as well as voluntary benefits (flexible spending accounts, auto, home, transit, etc.)
  • Reconcile payments against enrollment data and payroll deductions and ensures that wire transfers are accurately transmitted by established deadlines
  • Handle established and new data sources and feeds
  • Work with vendors to create and run reports and weekly files to meet informational needs and troubleshoot resulting issues
  • Audit reports and files to identify and correct discrepancies to ensure the transfer of accurate data to benefits vendors and third party administrators (TPAs) as well as the collection of appropriate payroll deductions
  • Provide back up support to the Customer Service Center
  • Help with organizing materials for New Hire Orientation
  • Provide suggestions and input regarding operational improvements and policy questions
Requirements for the Benefits Assistant:
  • 3 years related experience preferably in a benefits environment
  • 2 years of college coursework in business, human resources or related subject area; Bachelor’ s degree preferred
  • Additional systems experience with a relational HRIS system desirable
  • Technology savvy with a strong knowledge working with Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • Strong multi-tasking and prioritizing skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
