Responsibilities for the Human Resources Business Partner:
  • Manage approximately thirty (30) Assistants in the Boston office
  • Recruit for assistants including: advertising; sourcing; conducting screening interviews, coordinating additional interviews, making final candidate selection; and extending and negotiating offers
  • Review local salary survey information and make recommendations for offers
  • Coordinate temporary staffing needs
  • Manage and participate in the onboarding process and ensure that all Assistants are trained and successfully integrated
  • Review and assess assistant assignments, workloads and teams to ensure appropriate ratios
  • Evaluate staffing models and develop enhancements to maximize efficiency
  • Monitor performance, optimize service by assessing skills and understanding needs of attorneys
  • Responsible for implementation and execution of HR processes and procedures related to assistants including managing the firm wide review process, facilitating the use of the evaluation software, ensuring timely completion of evaluations and any follow-up actions
  • Allocate performance merit and bonus dollars
  • Review evaluations, synthesize feedback, and conduct annual performance review meetings
  • Work with attorneys and Assistants to identify training and development needs
  • Work on strengthening employer-employee relationships
  • Manage employee relations matters including performance management and job expectations
  • Conduct exit interviews and discuss aggregate results with management as appropriate
  • Manage electronic timesheet process, PTO requests, overtime and daily/evening coverage
  • Responsible for planning assistant events that encourage employees to make connections and socialize with their peers
  • Prepare and manage assistant budget and approve expenses
  • Participate in the preparation of responses to compensation surveys
  • Serve as a consultant to managers on human resource related issues.
  • Work closely with managers and employees to improve work relationships, build morale and increase productivity and retention
  • Manage and participate in the onboarding process and ensure that all employees are trained and successfully integrated
  • Provide back-up support on the Professional Staff evaluation process
  • Work with other HR Managers to regularly evaluate and monitor current performance evaluation protocols and suggest and implement enhancements that will effectively measure productivity and performance
  • Provide feedback and coaching to managers on employee relations matters, giving and receiving feedback, flexible work arrangements and leaves of absence
  • As needed, provide employee relations support to Professional Staff
  • Collaborate with HR Managers and other stake holders to assist with the design of professional development programs and delivery methods
  • Coordinate various aspects of the Professional Staff departure process, including drafting departure memos, firm wide notifications, and ensuring exit interview information is captured
  • Evaluate and implement enhancements to the exit interview program firm wide and identify trends for better management practices, enhancing employee engagement and productivity
  • Work with Director to identify HR metrics that reflect the firm’ s strategic objectives and identify the best way to present the data
  • Conduct research and analysis on special projects
  • Travel occasionally
Requirements for the Human Resources Business Partner:
  • Bachelor’ s Degree
  • 10+ years of Human Resources management experience, law firm required
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate staff
  • Demonstrated experience in employee relations, performance improvement and separations
  • Knowledge of employment law, compensation, organizational planning, recruitment, organizational development, safety, and employee engagement initiatives
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment and prioritize multiple projects on a daily basis and adjust to shifting priorities
  • Strong planning, project management and organizational skills
  • Facility analyzing, working with and presenting data
  • Ability to collaborate and gain the respect, trust and confidence of the firm’ s attorneys and professional staff
  • Creative and proactive approach to problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp and implement new concepts quickly
  • Strong analytical abilities, resourcefulness, and attention to detail
