A top law firm in Boston, MA is seeking a Manager of Attorney Development and Diversity to join their team. Responsibilities for the Manager of Attorney Development and Diversity:
  • Serve as the primary attorney development team resource to the Diversity Committee / Diversity Chair
  • Manage and implement certain diversity initiatives as approved by Firm Management (Sponsor and Retention Program for minority attorneys, diversity and inclusion training, etc.)
  • Collaborate with Diversity Chair and attorney development team to develop and implement best practices related to integration and performance management
  • Monitor and provide bi-annual reports regarding the progress made on the firm’ s diversity goals
  • Provide strategic advice and support generally for client-based diversity inquiries
  • Coordinate data collection and draft responses for survey inquiries and RFPs, as needed
  •   Manage creation of pool and participant selection in non-member leadership programs
  • Advise and provide support as appropriate for legal recruiting, diversity committee, and leadership of firm affinity groups
  • Work closely with members of the attorney development team to facilitate and guide Section Management through the performance management process, with a focus on diversity and inclusion
  • Manage the Human Resources portion of lateral member integration; facilitate successful transition of lateral members into the firm by working with Section Managers, Practice Managers, Legal Recruiting and other administrative departments
  • Collaborate with other HR Managers and PMs to implement the firm’ s professional development strategy
  • Communicate regularly with Managers of Administration in each office and assist in addressing non-member questions and/or concerns
  • Co-Lead the firm’ s Attorney Parent Network
  • Act as a liaison to firm’ s alumni initiative
  • Travel regularly among offices for purposes of supporting attorney development and strategizing local diversity initiatives
Requirements for the Manager of Attorney Development and Diversity:
  • Bachelor’ s degree required, JD preferred, but not required
  • 5-7 years working experience, at least 3 years in law firm and/or professional services setting and a minimum 1-2 years of diversity and inclusion work
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the business model of large multi-disciplinary law firms
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to influence others
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment, prioritize multiple projects on a daily basis, and adjust to shifting priorities
  • Strong planning, project management and organizational skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and a high-energy level
  • Facility analyzing, working with and presenting data
  • Ability to collaborate and gain the respect, trust and confidence of the Firm’ s attorneys and professional staff
  • Creative and proactive approach to problem solving
  • Facilitate teamwork and identify opportunities to develop new processes/infrastructure

  • Ability to quickly get up to speed and master new applications and software is critical
