A leading medical center in Worcester, MA is seeking a Medical Assistant to join their team. In this contract role, you will be responsible for assisting the healthcare team with the care and management of patients during their visit. The Medical Assistant will perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to maintain and support the office and to assure efficient patient flow through the office. Responsibilities for the Medical Assistant:
  • Maintain patient flow by escorting patients from the waiting area to the examination room
  • Prepare patients for their visit, examination, procedure, and/or treatment in accordance with established procedures
  • Assist physicians or other licensed clinical staff with designated medical and/or point of care testing procedures in accordance with established protocols
  • Assist physicians or other licensed clinical staff with patient care support activities relating to referrals, prior authorization for medication, point of care testing, patient education, etc.
  • Maintain a high quality patient care environment by cleaning, preparing, and stocking all examination rooms and treatment areas in accordance with established standards
  • Understand, respect and demonstrate patient confidentiality in all endeavors
  • Administer medication via injection
  • Prepare, administer and/or manage intravenous and inhaled medication and treatments
  • Make independent medical decisions regarding patients either in person or via the telephone
  • Assess patient acuity or independently make any other type of patient assessment, including assessing the clinical and/or physical status of patients
  • Close/suture wounds
  • Manage and/or independently prescribe medication refills
  • Manage and/or independently provide medication samples
  • Refer patients for other services or to other physicians
  • Perform receptionist, clerical and other functions as needed to support the efficient operation of the practice
  • Follow Infection Control and regulatory compliance guidelines
Requirements for the Medical Assistant:
  • Minimum of a High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant certification program (or demonstrated knowledge of competencies required to perform essential functions of position)
  • 1-2 years of successful working experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical practice setting
  • OSHA, CLIA and HIPAA knowledgeable
  • Fluent in Spanish preferred
  • Must be able to make fast, educated decisions in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to read and interpret documents accurately such as safety rules and patient charts
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations for proper patient identification, to take and record weight and height measurements, vital signs and blood pressure collection as authorized
  • Technology savvy with a strong knowledge working with Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • Strong multi-tasking and prioritizing skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
