One of Boston’ s premiere law firms is seeking to add a Tax Accountant with trust and estate tax experience to their dynamic team. Under the supervision of the Manager of Tax Services, the Tax Accountant will work closely with members of the Wealth Management Group to provide high level client service to family office clients. The Tax Accountant will prepare fiduciary tax returns and 1099s together with a limited number of personal income tax returns for Firm clients. Responsibilities for the Tax Accountant:
  • Provide high level service to clients related to tax planning and compliance
  • Focus on providing enhanced communication to clients by serving as an advisor, interpreter and liaison between clients, team members and an outsource provider
  • Meet with clients as needed
  • Assist Manager of Tax Services in developing and implementing department procedures
  • Ensure the Firm complies, on behalf of clients, with federal, state and foreign tax rules and regulations
  • Engage in special projects related to client matters involving tax accounting, compliance and planning
  • Correspond and handle inquiries from state and federal tax authorities and audits
  • Monitor tax law changes, analyze impact to various clients and recommend solutions for various tax issues
  • Responsible for the preparation, review and processing of a substantial number of fiduciary tax returns, including Forms 1041 and 1099
  • Analyze and prepare estimated tax payments for Fiduciary trust accounts
  • Monitor and review account transactions, disbursements and receipts relating to trust accounts for tax consequences
  • Assist Trust Administrators by reviewing and researching any tax situation that could affect the management of their accounts
  • Calculate and provide tax clearance/tax reserves for closing trust accounts for the Trust Operations Department.
  • Responsible for the preparation, review and processing of a small number of individual client returns and related entity returns
  • Responsible for collaborating with an outsource provider and clients on the gathering of information for a substantial number of individual clients
  • Use leadership skills to establish effective working relationships, encourage teamwork, and build consensus in order to meet or exceed project standards and firm objectives
  • Maintain active lines of communication within and between departments to share knowledge and support collaborative efforts, organizational change, and goal achievement
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and developments affecting tax compliance and planning
  • Helps to support change occurring within the department and collaborate with other members of management
Requirements for the Tax Accountant:
  • Bachelor’ s Degree in accounting, finance or business administration
  • CPA or Enrolled Agent preferred
  • 5+ years of experience with tax compliance and planning
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the tax concepts needed to prepare Federal and State fiduciary tax returns
  • Strong client interaction skills
  • Must have computer proficiency and experience working with various tax software products including OneSource and Excel
  • Technology savvy with a strong knowledge working with Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • Strong multi-tasking and prioritizing skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
