A Boston-based organization focused on ending homelessness is seeking a housing case manager to join their team. The case manager will work with clients from homelessness through housing stability. Responsibilities include providing Case Management to clients and assist them with moving from homeless into housing as quickly as possible.

Case Management will include Pre-Placement Services to include Outreach, Enrollment, Housing search and Placement, Linkage and Referral. Case Management also will include Stabilization Services for clients once they are placed into permanent housing.

Responsibilities of the Housing Case Manager:

  • Take the lead on assisting clients in their housing search
  • Work closely with other Case Managers to identify and outreach to clients for program enrollment
  • Outreach to landlords throughout Boston and work to gain relationships that will benefit clients
  • Assist clients in securing necessary household items, including food and furnishings upon move in
  • Remain involved in the tenant, landlord relationship throughout stabilization and may act as a liaison between the two when necessary
  • Work closely with the client to connect them to programs and mainstream benefits
  • Link clients to internal services and work with them to increase their income and further increase their housing stability
  • Determine clients’ ongoing need for services
  • Work within a best practice framework of Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-informed Care throughout your engagement with clients

Requirements for the Housing Case Manager:
  • BSW, BA or BS in a human services related field, or a high school diploma and a minimum of four years of experience in a social service setting
  • Certification, training, or formal education in counseling or case management
  • Valid MA Driver’ s License with an acceptable driving record for the last two years
  • Minimum of two years of Case Management/ relevant experience
  • Minimum of two years of experience delivering services to a challenged population often struggling with addiction and untreated or under-treated mental health concerns
  • Direct experience working in shelters or with homeless individuals
  • Ability to learn and successfully use MIS & HMIS programs
  • Experience producing written and statistical reports
  • Experience outreaching Landlords, or providing housing search and placement services
  • Practical experience in client assessment, negotiation, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, crisis prevention and intervention, household budgeting, rapid re-housing, landlord outreach and service planning, recovery services – including mental health, substance use/abuse and traumatic brain injury
  • Ability to operate a 15-passenger van for work use
  • Technology savvy with knowledge working with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
