Schedule:
  • 8: 30am- 8: 00pm on Monday
  • 8: 30am -5: 00pm from Tuesdays – Thursdays
  • 8: 30am to 12: 00pm on Fridays

Responsibilities for the Legal Administrative Assistant:
  • Assists the Office Manager in the daily operation of the office
  • Types all legal pleadings, briefs, opinions, contracts, deeds, leases, ordinances, and legislation from handwritten, rough and straight drafts
  • Performs online searches and research in legal dockets and databases
  • Type general interoffice and outgoing correspondence
  • Composes standardized correspondence and legal documents from generalized instructions
  • May also be required to type from audio recordings
  • Maintains legal docket, case files, and card catalog systems and office library
  • Operates and maintains attorneys’ calendars, caseloads tracking, dockets, legal practice management databases and related software
  • Receives, records, and distributes daily mail, claims and legal pleadings as necessary
  • Answers telephones, directs inquiries to appropriate department personnel, departments or agencies
  • Interfaces with members of the public visiting the office
  • Performs other related duties as may be required. Supervises clerical staff as directions.

Requirements for the Legal Administrative Assistant:
  • Minimum of 1 year legal experience, 2 years preferred
  • Some advanced legal training or experience preferred, including paralegal training and/or experience
  • Accurate typing skills of 30 words per minute required, but 50 preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook for Windows) required
  • Must be comfortable with and have the ability to learn new software applications
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong telephone and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software highly desirable
  • Knowledge of court rules and procedures  
  • Familiarity with legal terminology
  • Ability to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
