A local non-profit organization in Cambridge, MA with a focus on improving and encouraging "living democracy" is seeking a dynamic and resourceful Office Manager/Outreach Coordinator who is familiar with and committed to a living democracy accountable to citizens and thus serving the general welfare. This is an opportunity to work with the internationally recognized political philosopher of an SPI organization doing groundbreaking work on promoting democratic solutions to some of the biggest challenges of our time. The focus now is on developing solutions to the related political and economic crises of democracy.

The Manager will report to and support the Founder and her work. An undergraduate degree, and possibly some graduate work is required. Familiarity with public policies related to democracy is strongly preferred. Previous experience providing administrative support for a small office also is desired. The position is open and compensation will be based on the candidates' qualifications.

  The responsibilities for the Office Manager/Outreach Coordinator:
  • Increase outreach by seeking and arranging an increase in paid speaking engagements
  • Initiate outreach to academics, encouraging them to use any of the Founder’ s 19 books that are relevant to their classes and subjects
  • Improve the effectiveness of the organization’ s Web site
  • Support the expansion of meaningful mission-related relationships: Work with the founder to identify and develop meaningful relationships with others sharing the founder’ s concerns and strategies
  • Support development of new products and services
  • Work with the Founder to develop her research and writing schedule
  • Recruit/help to organize interns and/or volunteers for research under the Founder’ s supervision
  • Manage any needed editing, copyediting
  • Write blogs, essays, interviews and collaborate with satellite office in publishing quarterly newsletters
  • Obtain support as needed for the Founder’ s research, editing, posting such writing
  • Finance: budgeting, bill paying, taxes and other financial reporting etc. Travel bookings and schedules
  • Space, including relationship with landlord, advertising for and relationship with sub-letters; upkeep, access, etc.
  • Manage equipment such as purchase, upkeep, licensing, and tech support
  • Schedule weekly meetings with the Founder to set weekly and longer-term goals, review progress, resolve issues and make ongoing improvements
  • Schedule longer monthly meetings with the Founder to review goals, milestones and achievements
  • Schedule annual review meetings with the Founder
  • Ensure that short and long-term goals/milestones visible to all staff
Requirements for the Office Manager/Outreach Coordinator:
  • Strongly identified with mission of organization 
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Prior office experience 
  • Technology savvy with a strong knowledge working with Microsoft Office 
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • Strong multi-tasking and prioritizing skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
