Requirements for the Purchasing Specialist:
  • Bachelor’ s Degree preferably in business and related discipline
  • 2-3 plus years direct experience preferably in not-for-profit and/or procurement environment
  • Ability to learn and use new technology, experience with Sungard’ s Banner Reporting System preferred
  • Knowledge of contract terms, accounting, finance, and marketing
  • Thorough working technical knowledge and/or understanding of procurement practices, ability to assess and manage college needs and communicate those needs to the vendor community
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skills needed to analyze trends and to evaluate products and services
  • S/he must be flexible and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must have demonstrated an understanding of e-procurement tools and the ability to incorporate them into sourcing strategies
  • Experience/knowledge of contracts for goods and services
  • Technology savvy with a strong knowledge working with Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • Strong multi-tasking and prioritizing skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
