A leading law firm in Boston, MA is seeking a Senior Manager of Attorney Development and Coaching to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing coaching and guidance related to the performance and development of non-member attorneys.

This position supervises the Manager of Attorney Development and Diversity as well as six Practice Managers while working closely with each of them to ensure effective implementation of the firm’ s developmental frameworks to guide attorney career growth.  This position also partners closely with Section Management on non-member attorney matters. Responsibilities for the Senior Manager of Attorney Development and Coaching:
  • Supervise the Manager of Attorney Development and Diversity as well as six Practice Managers
  • Collaborate with Section Management in the performance management process
  • Perform coaching and employee relations for all non-member attorneys, with particular emphasis on performance matters, giving and receiving feedback, managing up and down, preparing for and returning from leaves of absence, preserving the firm’ s culture, and flexible work arrangements
  • Manage the non-Member transitions process
  • Establish and monitor external coaching arrangements
  • Be part of a team that will analyze non-Member compensation and research market benchmarks and potential new approaches to compensation
  • Manage the HR portion of Member integration and departures and facilitate successful integrations by working with Section Managers, Practice Managers, Legal Recruiting and other administrative departments
  • Collaborate with other Attorney Development Managers and Practice Managers to implement the Firm’ s attorney development strategy
  • Travel regularly to other offices
Requirements for the Senior Manager of Attorney Development and Coaching:
  • BA/BS required, JD required
  • 10+ years working experience, at least 4 years in law firm setting.  5+ years working within Human Resources preferred
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the business model of large multi-disciplinary law firms
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to influence others
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment, prioritize multiple projects on a daily basis, and adjust to shifting priorities
  • Strong planning, project management and organizational skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and a high-energy level
  • Facility analyzing, working with and presenting data
  • Ability to collaborate and gain the respect, trust and confidence of the Firm’ s attorneys and professional staff
  • Creative and proactive approach to problem solving
  • Facilitate teamwork and identify opportunities to develop new processes/infrastructure
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp and implement new concepts quickly
